Yes, yes, yes.I know I’m not supposed to be blogging at work, but this will only take five minutes -- about as long as it would if I stood over my cubicle and gossiped about it.

WHAT IS GOING ON OVER AT VIRGINIA TECH?
People die in a dorm about 7 a.m. and two hours later the gunman strikes again?
Was the campus on total lock down after the first shooting? If not, why?
Did they send out a campus-wide e-mail advising students of what happened and to use caution?
WHY WAS THE GUNMAN STILL AT LARGE AND ACCESSING A CLASSROOM(S?) WITH A GUN HOURS LATER?
What a damned mess. I wish the public relations and security offices the best of luck cleaning up this one.
More importantly, I’m sorry for the families looking for answers as to why their children are dead.

Good question... How was a gunman allowed to kill, take a break, then come out and kill again? My inner-cynic ponders if rural police should be rotated inner-city cops who have no problem shooting suspects dead.
But seriously, why didn't anyone help this young man? No one knows who'll snap and turn violent but it was obvious that this guy was troubled. And from the evidence it seems like no one helped him. What if some counseling or just a patient ear could have averted what happened on the VT campus? What if American culture in general was less self-absorbed and uncaring? How many school shootings do you hear of in Asia, Africa or even Canada?
How many young lives will be sacrificed before this society wakes up and realizes that more time should be spent genuinely guiding and connecting with our young people in lieu of putting financial band-aids on our emotional and moral shortcomings when raising them? Call me an idealist but these acts of violence by our youth show that an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure.
